    Using Templates

In this topic you will learn how to use templates to add annotations to multiple videos.

A template is a track of annotations that is applied to multiple Brightcove Interactivity projects. Templates can be used to quickly apply identical annotations to multiple videos with one click.

Multiple template tracks can be added to any project. If the template track is updated, Brightcove Interactivity will automatically update all projects using this template. This is great for any interactive features that should be added to a large number of videos. Some typical use cases are:

    • Adding a logo to all of the company videos
    • Adding a "skip-ahead" button to a series of videos that have the same pattern
    • Adding a call-to-action on all videos with a similar subject

    Creating a template

To create a template, follow these steps:

    1. Login to Brightcove Interactivity Studio.
    2. Click NEW TEMPLATE.
    3. Enter a Title and click NEXT.
    4. Confirm that the template is created. A sample video is automatically loaded into the template. To change the video, click Configure and enter a new Video Source.
    5. Use the toolbar below the video to add annotations.
    6. To apply the template to a project, click on a project to open it.
    7. Click SETTINGS at the top of the page.
    8. Locate the Templates Applied field and click it.
    9. Click on one or more templates to add to the project. Templates added to the project will be listed at the top of the dialog.
    10. Click SUBMIT.

    Applying templates using tags

Tags can be added to templates as a way to quickly add annotations to Video Cloud videos that are published using a HapYak-enabled player. If a published video has the same tag that was assigned to the template, the template annotations will be applied.

Follow these steps to use a tag to apply a template to a published video.

    1. Login to Brightcove Interactivity Studio.
    2. In the left navigation, click Manage.
    3. At the top of the page, click Templates.
    4. Click on a template to open it.
    5. At the top of the page, click Configure.
    6. Locate the Tags field and click it.
    7. Add one or more Tags to the template and click SAVE.
    8. Click SUBMIT.

By adding the tag company_logo to the template, any video that is tagged company_logo and published using a HapYak-enabled player will have the template annotations applied. Follow these steps to tag and publish a sample Video Cloud video.

    1. Login to Video Cloud Studio.
    2. Open the Media module.
    3. Click on a video Name to open the video properties page.
    4. In the Video Information panel, click Edit.
    5. Add the same tag that was used to tag the template.
    6. Click Save.
    7. Publish the video using a HapYak-enabled player.
    8. Play the video and confirm that the annotation(s) appear.
